From converting the idea to a reality, the smartphone goes under several processes before it finally reaches to market. The journey of every smartphone starts from an idea and it ends up in a reality. Several minds are working tirelessly to convert it from a prototype to a finally made smartphone. The manufacturing of a smartphone involves the following processes.
1. Concept:
The journey of every smartphone begins from a conceptual phase. Several sketches are created based on the idea, functionality, interface. The phone`s size and weight are also taken into account during this whole process. After the completion of sketches, a senior management team in consultation with the R&D department finalizes which sketch will become a prototype.
2. Prototype:
Once the design is finalized, a team creates several prototypes. These prototypes are usually non-functional and are used only for a visual purpose. These give an idea about design, weight, finish and other factors. Usually, Styrofoam, Plastic, and other reusable materials are used for constructing prototypes. This design step is quite important since nobody is going to buy a smartphone, which has good functions but looks pretty ugly. After inspection, the management team selects only one prototype which will be converted into a smartphone. The concept is then pushed to engineers, who decide what electronics are necessary.

3. Hardware & Software installation:
The key component of every smartphone is its electronics. Depending on the features, hardware components are installed. There are three main components in a smartphone, a printed circuit board or motherboard, a battery, and a screen. In addition to the electronics, Software which is also called the heart of a computer is installed. Generally, it is pre-decided on which OS (operating system) a smartphone will work. It is ensured that both software and hardware are compatible. After completing these processes, the product is then sent for testing.
4. Testing:
Before actually starting the manufacturing, it is necessary to check all parameters of a cell phone. A team rigorously tests the build quality and other parameters. Various other tests like drop test, bend test, and weather condition test is done to check its performance.
5. Mass Production:
Some cell phone components are manufactured in house, whereas some specific components are outsourced. Outsourcing components help to manage large demands and speed up the production rate. The companies which help in manufacturing outsourced products are known as original equipment manufacturers (OEM). The required specs, quality, and other data are sent to these OEM`s. Once all components are assembled, the phones are tested. The company logo and some unique identification codes are embraced on the device to avoid duplicity. Cell phones along with their accessories are packed in the box and they are ready to ship.
6. Shipping:
Shipping is the final stage of the entire process. These packaged boxes are dispatched to a warehouse from where they are supplied to the retailers and end up in your hands. At the end of the day, you should know the smartphone you`re using has traveled a long journey.
